usb air purifier
RM17.50 instead of RM35 for USB Ionic Air Purifier from MLM Vision Enterprise [50% OFF]

I usually have serious reservations about these kind of things. I don’t believe in it. However, if it works as a USB drive, I reckon it’ll be a great novelty item since I collect USB drives. I realized after actually reading it that it’s not a USB drive at all – just a USB air purifier. Oh well, one for the novelty shelf. :D

KEADILAN Kecam Keganasan Polis Terhadap Mahasiswa

Keadilan Daily

Bantah ‘Kempen Bebas Anwar 901′ Tidak Berasas

Harakah

Electoral Reform a Farce Without Free And Fair Media Coverage

By Kim Quek

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s call for free and fair media coverage for the coming election strikes at the core of the fundamental flaws that have made Malaysian elections a mockery of democracy.

This is because electoral democracy is a game of perception.  And perception is shaped by the media.

Hence, an electoral contest with one contestant monopolizing the media to the exclusion of his adversary is akin to a debating competition where one debater is using a microphone to speak to the audience while the other is using none.

And the Malaysian media is notorious for its biased reporting, as the ruling coalition Barisan Nasional (BN) has never been shy in exploiting to the fullest, its iron-grip on the entire spectrum of the local mass media (save the Internet) to advance its political fortune.
Such complete control is made possible through a combination of repressive legislations and media ownership, as the BN government possesses the arbitrary power to grant or terminate any media license (printed and electronic) without legal redress, and all such media are owned either by BN’s component parties or by their allies.

And public TV and radio, which are legally bound to be politically neutral, have long been corrupted by BN to serve its parochial political interests – a practice that has emphatically breached our Constitution.

GOLIATH vs DAVID MEDIA WAR

With such unlimited media power at the exclusive disposal of a ruling power as ruthless as BN, one can imagine what kind of scenario will be seen at a Malaysian national election. It will not be a democratic election for sure.  More likely, it will look like giant Goliath fighting little David,  as far media war is concerned.  And yet, it is the media that influence the mind, and the mind that influences the vote.

Granted that advancement in Internet has somewhat mitigated the unleveled playing field, but its current stage of usage in Malaysia is nowhere near the kind of level that would enable the opposition to meaningfully counter BN’s vicious propaganda perpetrated through the main stream media.  TV, radio and newspaper are still the regular information feeders depended upon by overwhelming majority of Malaysians, particularly those in the non-urban areas.

And the opposition’s serious handicap in information dissemination is further critically compounded by the 8 to 10 day campaign period (though allowable period is 60 days), a practice perpetrated in recent decades by an obviously manipulated Election Commission (EC) to favour BN.  With such a ridiculously short campaign period, it is impossible for the opposition to carry its message – not   to mention countering BN’s false propaganda – to the far flung territories that include the hinterlands across the South China Seas.

More than any other factor, BN’s monopolistic abuse and exploitation of the mass media, coupled with the indecently brief campaign period, has been accountable for BN’s unfailing victory in every general election in the past.

BN NO MATCH FOR PAKATAN IN FAIR CONTEST

Surveying the current scenario ahead of the election, what we see is a fundamentally altered political landscape.  On one side of the battlefield, is an aged and decadent coalition with antiquated policy, kept in power by dint of its grip on the state machinery. On the other, a newly emerged coalition brimming with ideas to rejuvenate the nation, with proven record of  sound governance in its state governments.

Under such circumstances, it is fair to say that BN should be no match for Pakatan Rakyat in a free and fair contest, more so in the current trend of dissent against decadent and aged power that has swept across the world including our region.

But of course, we have never had a free and fair contest, and in fact, our unleveled playing field has gone from bad to worse.  It is in the realization that we may once again be cheated of a fair choice of government that hitherto docile voters have risen strongly to brave brutal crackdown to demand fair election in the Bersih 2.0 rally.
It is not difficult to surmise that, given the present extreme lop-sidedness of Malaysian election, whether the people will be given a fair choice in the coming poll hinges on how effective the current attempt at electoral reform will be towards rectifying the current flaws.

The recent focus by the parliamentary select committee (PFC) and EC on introducing indelible ink and advance voting in lieu of postal voting is of course a welcome improvement.  But we must be cautious not to allow such focus to blur our priorities, top among which is the mandatory practice of free and fair and non-discriminatory media coverage for all contestants. And of course, the current unconstitutional abuse of public media (TV, radio, news agency etc) to disseminate biased information in favour of BN has to cease forthwith.

FREE MEDIA NON-NEGOTIABLE

This is something that BN can do right away without waiting for new legislation or alteration of election regulation.  All that is needed is the political will and commitment to honour the letter and spirit of our Constitution.

Knowing the critical importance of free media to democratic election, it should be made a non-negotiable issue.

I have no doubt that Bersih 2.0, political parties and all who cherish democracy and the Constitution will stand very firm to demand that BN gives its solemn pledge to restore free and fair media coverage as pre-requisite to the return to democratic election.

Saab in talks with Turkish gov’t, according to reports

Saab Automobile, which declared voluntary bankruptcy last week, remains determined in its search for a suitor to save it from oblivion. According to reports, the Swedish carmaker is in talks with the Turkish government, after the latter supposedly expressed interest in the carmaker.

Citing sources close to Saab’s management, German mag auto motor und sport reported that the talks have been initiated by Victor Muller, Swedish Automobile’s chief executive, adding that the discussions were still at a very early stage. It was however reported last week that Turkey’s Industry Minister Nihat Ergun said that the government was not interested in Saab.

Elsewhere, another report by Swedish business daily Dagens Industri said that one of India’s largest carmakers may also be interested in buying parts or all of the company. Any deal would however need the approval of former owner and key licence holder General Motors, which blocked the last bid – by the Chinese – to save Saab.

BMW 1-Series three-door hatchback patent filings leaked

The new BMW 1-Series with the codename F20 was unveiled back in June, but only in five-door hatchback form. Now, here are some patent filings to show us how the three-door hatchback variant will look like.

No big departure from the 5dr, which is expected. Measurements should be unaltered, too. The 1er is both longer and wider than its predecessor, while wheelbase has grown by 30 mm to make 2,690 mm. Taken bare, the wheelbase is quite long, but because of the 1-Series’ unique cab rearward RWD layout, cabin space should be more snug than a typical C-segment hatchback.

BMW launched the 5dr with two different trim levels – Sport Line and Urban Line. Will the 3dr come with the same option, or will it be just Sport? Click here for more pics and info on the F20 1-Series.

Proton extends free rear lap belt installation programme

Proton has announced an extension of the end date of its free rear centre lap belt installation service from 31 December 2011 to 31 January 2012. This is due to poor response so far – only about 17% out of the 225,930 affected Proton vehicles have been installed with the rear lap belt, to date.

Since the Government first announced in June 2008 to make it compulsory for vehicles to be fitted with the lap belt, Proton has been installing it at no cost to owners of the Saga LMST and Gen.2 models manufactured between 2004 and 2008.

In September this year, Proton embarked on an outreach programme consisting of roadshows and on-ground activities across the country to create awareness on this matter. This included setting up hospitality and safety marquees at highway R&Rs in Dengkil, Ayer Keroh, Gunung Semanggol and Temerloh, and pamphlet distribution at selected tolls.

Stepping up efforts, Proton Mobile Teams (eight teams of four technical personnel) were also dispatched beginning early this month to used car outlets and locations such as mosques, hypermarkets and petrol stations.

“We would like to urge our customers with the affected cars, and Malaysians in general, to not only comply with the new ruling to avoid getting fined by the authorities, but to adopt the practice of using seat belts for rear occupants in the name of safety. We also urge parents to take up the habit of ensuring that their children who are seated at the back are properly belted up,” said Proton Group MD Dato’ Sri Syed Zainal Abidin.

With this extension, Saga LMST and Gen.2 owners who have yet to fix their rear centre lap belts can make an appointment at authorised Proton Service Centres to have it done. Installation will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes per car.

PSC Harus Menimbang Secara Menyeluruh Tuntutan BERSIH

KENYATAAN MEDIA
30 DISEMBER 2011

Gara-Gara Ego, Daniel Lee Hilang Populariti!

“Saya mulai sedar makna muzik sebenar apabila saya menguruskan perniagaan milik bapa saya.

Ketika ditanya mengapa tiada lagu Melayu diselitkan dalam album barunya kali ini, ini pula jawab Daniel;

Saya mahu merakamkan album berbahasa Melayu sepenuhnya,” tuturnya mengakhiri perbualan.

Proton P3-21A Tuah interior revealed for the first time!

And here we have our first real peek into the interior of Proton’s upcoming P3-21A global sedan, thanks to reader Daud who spotted a group of 3 units being test driven by Proton engineers parked in Genting Sempah.

Click the image above to zoom in and you’ll be able to see some details. We’ve done our best to enhance the contrast of the image so you can make out the details through the reflection. It’s a pretty good looking dashboard, and we think we can spot out paddle shifters, an engine push-start button, and a multi-info display in the instrumentation cluster.

The interior is predominantly a sleek black/dark grey and silver, with a curved centre console that meets the centre dash area. The in-car entertainment controls seem to be mounted high up the dashboard, close to the centre air conditioning vents.

Check out the gallery below for more shots from the set.

Reports indicate that Proton and Chinese carmaker Hawtai Automobile are expected to sign an official collaboration agreement before Chinese New Year at the earliest.

According to an unnamed Hawtai executive, discussions have already reached a much deeper state, and the exec added that the two sides have also explored plans to establish a new team of around 30 people in Beijing, with Hawtai planning to send nine other employees to Malaysia.

In October, at the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit in Nanning, Guangxi, Proton and Hawtai agreed on a potential collaboration, aiming to establish a technology site – with each having a 50% ownership share – to research and develop new models and key auto parts.

Besides R&D, the venture is also to focus on engineering and technology support, quality assurance work, supplier management and other basic tasks. Additionally, work on developing new vehicles, including new energy cars, is part of the agenda.

The reports state that domestic production of the Exora MPV and the upcoming P3-21A sedan – to be assembled at Ordos City, Inner Mongolia – will be the first order of business. The two companies are currently exploring ideas on how to lower costs to export the vehicles – which comply with Euro 5 emission standards – to Europe and other markets abroad.

The cooperation between Proton and Hawtai is to be carried out according to a new business model that won’t be limited to just Malaysia and China, but will include different markets from across the globe, acording to Hou Haijing, acting vice president and director of Hawtai’s automobile division. The two companies will use a global platform to develop new vehicle technology, procure auto parts and finally expand into new foreign markets, he added.

Rozita Che Wan Bercuti Bersama Zain Saidin, Nafikan Hubungan Cinta

Respon Nik Nazmi Kepada Jawapan MAIWP Tentang Salahguna Wang Zakat Jamil Khir

Berikutan kenyataan saya semalam, Muhamad Yamin Ismail, Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan menyatakan bahawa pembiayaan kos guaman Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom, Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri dan dua lagi pegawai kanan MAIWP dalam menghadapi kes permohonan qazaf Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim diambil daripada geran
    kerajaan.

    pengurusan wang zakat.

The ladies of Tokyo 2011 – a belated Christmas present!

Ohayou gozaimasu! Yes, we know it’s long overdue, but better late than never, no? ;) Here are the ladies from this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, which returned to Tokyo proper after 24 years. Lots of ground to cover, and lots of cars to see, so girls weren’t our main priority.

Anyway, the ladies of Tokyo weren’t as eye catching as I remember, or is it just us getting jaded? In terms of eye candy (not the wheeled variety), I think we enjoyed the regional motor shows more. Forgive the lack of quantity – slim pickings.

Enough talking, you be the judge!
