Next time you are on Panglao Island, I recommend that you take the time to grab lunch at the Saffron Restaurant and Bar in Amorita Resort in Panglao. With a delicious menu, great service, and masterful chefs working behind the scenes, you’ll definitely satisfy your hunger and since the resort itself is gorgeous and offers spectacular alfresco dining…you will also find yourself in an amazing setting that will blow your mind (so don’t forget to pay attention to the amazing food!)
Crab Cake
Saffron Restaurant is named after the fragrant and one of the most precious Mediterranean spice called… What else? Saffron. Did I say the restaurant has magnificent views? Of course, since the restaurant sits on the cliffs to the east of the beach, you won’t find a better place for watching the sun make it’s daily descent from the heavens.
Barbeque Chicken Pizza
As you gaze over the crystal waters of the infinity pool and look at the startling blues of the Bohol Sea, it’s easy to become lost in thought…but don’t let the lechong kawali singigang go cold! How can I forget the crispy, tempting and killer lechon kawali served with my favorite tamarind broth.
Amorita Pork Sinigang
The menu offers a wide variety of favorite Filipino cuisine from kare-kare and crab cakes to crispy pork binagoongan or a delicious garden salad appetizer. For those hungry for more westernized fare you can munch on a BBQ chicken pizza, a grilled half chicken or some grilled blue marlin! Much like their pork sinigang, their Binagoongan also uses lechon kawali, but i enjoyed it more since the bagoong is not mixed with the pork so you can pretty much decide how much shrimp paste you want to mix with the pork and the green mango salad.
Crispy Pork Binagoongan
Dont miss the chance to tryout their Turon de Bohol, its not just your ordinary turon, Chef Raphael Ongchiong uses Lakatan instead of Saba and to make the turon more special, he added Langka to add flavor and vanilla ice cream on top.
One of the great things about Saffron Restaurant is that while the food is top of the line, the ambiance isn’t stuffy. It’s a friendly, casual place with gorgeous furniture such as the antique wooden tables with Filipino marble tops or the driftwood furniture which goes a long way to remind you of where you are (as if the views of the Bohol Sea would allow you to forget!)
Tuna Loin @ Saffron
Saffron is the kind of place where you can just relax with a book or one of the magazines from their library while you sip on a cold cocktail… or my favorite Salabat! oh wait…did I forget to mention the Saffron Bar? Whether you are looking for wine, cocktails, fruit smoothies and shakes or even a cup of aromatic Lavazza coffee, you can find it at the Saffron Bar.
Turon de Bohol
The bar staff are friendly and can answer any touristic questions you might have about Bohol. Of course, you can also just use the free wifi and your iPad to look up the info yourself too!
One thing is for sure, a stop at the Saffron Restaurant and Bar is worthwhile and time well spent. If you ask nice, they might even let you jump in the pool!
